Zambia has successfully hosted the 14th edition of the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations championship which was held from 26th February to 12th March, 2017.

The official venues of the tournament were the National Heroes stadium in Lusaka and the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.

The U20 tournament comprised of eight qualifying teams namely Cameroon, Egypt, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, and Zambia. Zambia emerged winners of the cup after a robust performance in which she won all the games played in the tournament.

Taking advantage of the sporting event being hosted in the country, Zambia Tourism Agency engaged with Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and CAF to promote tourism to the officials, players and tournament visitors.

ZTA collaborated with Football Association of Zambia to produce the official tournament booklet which was distributed throughout the tournament. The booklet included information on tourism such as accommodation, tourism attractions, and local restaurants offering Zambia and other cuisines.

The ZTA also served the tournament delegates on arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport where there is information desk in baggage hall and concourse areas. Before the tournament ended, ZTA organised a visit to Victoria Falls in Livingstone for the CAF officials.

An information desk was also set up at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka to give information on the various Heritage sites of the country as well as information on what to do in Lusaka, which also is the office for the CAF.

With new and modern sports infrastructure in the country, Zambia is set to host other international sporting events in the future which will in turn contribute to the growth of the tourism sector through earnings from delegates attending such events.
