Tourism: The African Masquerade that was set on Fire and didn’t burn at Ojude Oba festival
A Masquerade, Danafojura stole the show at the Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state after it walked out of a burning fire alive. The Danafojura masquerade pulled a fire stunt at the yearly event leaving spectators in awe.
Danafojura, a powerful masquerade from Oyo brought to this year’s Ojude Oba in honour of His Imperial Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CON, CFR, JP, Ogbagba all, The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
The powerful masquerade Danafojura, was brought by Iku Baba Yeye, The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
The Ojude-Oba festival is known to the Ijebus as a major festival that brings them together.
The native age grades (Regberegbe) converge at the Awujale’s palace to pay homage to the Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland and to seek the peace and progress of Ijebuland.
The festival is celebrated on 3rd day after Id-El-Kabir. Ojude Oba festival is celebrated amidst pomp and pageantry.
It attracts all Ijebus both home and abroad. International tourists do come to witness the colourful festival that entails booming of guns and horse riding by the Baloguns and Olorogu.
