The government of Tanzania plans to develop beach tourism as a drawcard.
This statement was made by Hamisi Kigwangalla, minister, natural resources and tourism.
Kigwangalla said mainland Tanzania could learn from its island neighbour, Zanzibar.
Kigwangalla expanded, “Beach tourism is not being promoted on mainland Tanzania, with its abundant potential.”
He added that the government was planning a strategy to explore the opportunities that existed around beach and coastal tourism, including establishing a beach management authority. He said this authority would work toward improving facilities at beaches as well as attracting more visitors to the country’s coast.
Kigwangalla also touched on the potential for growth around cruise tourism. He said the government was looking for investment to help construct a dock suitable for cruise ships.
