Africa: NANTA South-West VP calls for restructuring of tourism ministry in Oyo State
The Vice President, National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA), South West Zone, Dagunduro Olatokunbo has called on the governor of the Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde to overhaul the tourism sector in the state.
Dagunduro said the state which is blessed with enormous tourism potential needs to diversify and shift its focus from oil revenue in the country which most states rely on.
The South West NANTA president stated that there is an urgent need to restructure the tourism architecture in the state for better result noting that the sector is capable of creating employments for indigenes of the state.
He said: “I am sincerely delighted and join other well-wisher and good people of Oyo state to congratulate our Vibrant and productive Governor Engr. Oluseyi Makinde as the new Governor of Oyo state. With my aspiration so high of good delivery of qualitative governance to the entire people of Oyo state, permit me to call the attention of his Excellency to the total overhauling of the tourism sector of the state.
“Oyo State is of a truth is a pace setting state in the country and Africa at large, with its vast rich and endowed tourism potentials and destinations. It’s time we totally shift our focus away from Crude oil and begin to tap the vast inexhaustible tourism endowments we have particularly in Oyo State. I believe His Excellency will engage the stakeholders to ensure tourism become one of the major sources of revenue for the state and likewise the state will in no time become the tourism hub of Nigeria if channelled properly.
“The need to restructure the tourism board under the ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism is now. Likewise the Governor need to consider the separation of the ministry of Information from Culture and Tourism, this will help the sector to strife and create job opportunities, open up the economy of the state, develop our society and improve education and promotes our culture to mention a few.
“May almighty God bless the leadership of Oyo state and grant His Excellency the wisdom to drive the state to an enviable tourism status.”
