Jomo Kenyatta named most improved airport in Africa by ACI

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has been named the best improved airport in Africa by Airports Council International in the 2015 Airport Service Quality awards.

The survey carried out by ACI captured passengers’ experiences at all airport passenger contact points at more than 300 airports worldwide, and places JKIA as the fifth best airport in Africa.

Welcoming the news, Kenya Airports Authority acting managing director Yatich Kagungo said JKIA is undergoing major upgrading to position itself as a regional hub.

“We expect even further growth going forward as more capacity is unlocked by on going works, which will improve level of service, security and controlled access to meet international standards, thus taking advantage of its strategic location to position it as the premier aviation hub of Africa,” Kagungo said in a statement.

The airport handles an estimated 6.5 million passengers annually, and an additional capacity of one million will be injected by the new terminal to bring to 7.5 million passengers annually.
