Africa: SAA, AWA start single Kumasi-US ticket sales
South African Airways (SAA) and Ghanaian registered domestic and regional operator, Africa World Airlines (AWA), have successfully implemented an interline electronic ticketing agreement.
This now enables SAA to issue an itinerary that includes AWA’s domestic or regional routes. By this agreement, domestic passengers will now be able to purchase a single ticket to all routes serviced by SAA and AWA.
Passengers in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi, for instance, can purchase a ticket to Washington D.C or South Africa from SAA, be issued with one ticket that enables them fly into Accra on AWA to board the connecting flight to Washington DC on SAA without having to collect their luggage and check them in again for the US or South Africa-bound flight at the Kotoka International Airport.
It is the same for passengers flying into Kumasi from the the US. One ticket is issued on SAA, upon arrival in Accra, they can connect on AWA to Kumasi and collect their luggage in Kumasi.
“With this arrangement passengers from Kumasi, for instance, can check in their luggage to the US and only pick them up when them arrive in Washington. This will create a seamless traveling experience for passengers,” Country Manager of SAA, Gloria Yirenkyi said.
