Africa: Nigeria’s Uloma Egbuna of TBI wins BALAFON Tourism Man of the Year West Africa

Uloma Egbuna, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tour Brokers International Limited (TBI) Lagos Nigeria has grabbed the award of the Tourism Man of the Year in West Africa. The award was presented to her at the 4th Accra Weizo, the West African region travel fair held at the La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Accra-Ghana on the 22nd June 2018.

Uloma Eguna was presented the award in the presence of VIP’s and dignitaries which included Mr. Akwesi Agyeman Ag CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA); Mrs. Abena Pokuaa Amoah Boaitey, CEO Sets of Golden Beach Hotels; Mrs. Rita Ikechi-Uko, DMD, Akwaaba Travel Market; Mr. Frank Apeasyei, Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ghana; Zimbabwean Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs. Pavelyn Tenclai Musaka; Mr. Chris Iwarah, Corporate Communications Manager, Air Peace; Stella Fubara, Africa Director, Dubai Tourism; Mr. Hloni Pitso, Manager West Africa, South Africa Tourism; Mr. Alex Nwuba, CEO Smile Aviation; Mr. Chike Ogeah, V. Chairman, SAHCOL; Mr. Richard Kyere of Africa World Airline among others.

The award recognized Uloma Egbuna as the Tourism Man of the Year in West Africa for her outstanding effort in establishing a functional tours and travel management company. Uloma Egbuna has become the most dominant tourism face across West Africa as she has successfully extended and established a foremost cruise line, the Royal Caribbean Cruises, in several countries in West Africa, thereby playing a significant role in not only driving the tourism Agenda of your organization and country and catalyzing the growth of tourism in the sub region but also helping forge ties between countries in West Africa and Africa with a view to enhancing Regional Tourism.

In her response to the award, Uloma Egbuna expressed her profound appreciation for the award. “Thank you for recognizing our contribution, which could very easily have gone unnoticed. My team and I have worked hard to get West Africa on the Royal Caribbean radar. Royal Caribbean expansion into Africa is twofold: 1. Create a new source market of cruise guests; 2. Deploy a ship to Africa.

“Last year we were appointed to represent the Cruise line in West Africa and grow the market in the hope that one-day, countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast etc. will have a strong chance of being one of the Royal Caribbean Ports of call.

“We will not only have the opportunity to showcase for a fee, our rich cultural heritage to the millions of Cruise guests, but also create more jobs opportunities for our people. This is my vision.

She appreciated the effort of the organizers of the award, saying that, “Your passion and unwavering commitment and sacrifice to strategically position the African Tourism space, makes it an honour to receive the Balafon awards as Tourism “WoMan” of the Year in West Africa.
