News: Bolloré Africa wins bid for Ibom Deep Sea Port


Prospects for realisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport project (IDSP) brightened at the weekend as Bollore-Power China Consortium took the lead as preferred bidder.

The global maritime and cargo operator was chosen after an evaluation process by the Ibom Deep Seaport Project ministerial project development committee (MPDSC) in response to the IDSP Request for Proposal (RFP).

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation Development, Mr. Akan Okon, spoke to reporters at the weekend.

He said negotiation with the preferred bidder would commence immediately to ensure the Deep Sea Port in Mbo council starts operation soon.

“In accordance with due process, in presence of bidders, ICRC and the press, rigorous evaluation of bids was conducted in line with international best practice.

‘’Bolloré–PowerChina Consortium was selected as the preferred bidder and China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd.

“The next stage is negotiation with the Preferred Bidder, which will be conducted in compliance with extant rules stipulated by the IDSP Ministerial Project Development and Steering Committee (MPDSC).

“Negotiation with the Public Private Partnership (PPP) procurement process of Ibom Deep Seaport project with the preferred bidder will be with the view to work out the investment and concession details.”

The commissioner thanked those involved in the realisation of the project, explaining that the seaport would drive economic development and create employment.
